About Music Therapy Groups Australia
This website was created by Kate McMahon (RMT, PhD) to help participants access music therapy groups around Australia. This is a voluntary project, so please be aware that it may take time to be matched with a group, or to have your listing approved.
While care is taken to ensure groups on this site are run by Registered Music Therapists, participants are encouraged to check provider credentials and registration status when inquiring about music therapy groups. A listing on this website does not constitute an endorsement.
What is group music therapy?
Music therapy groups are run by university-trained Registered Music Therapists. Music therapy groups have been shown to support a range of needs for children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Music therapy provides accessible options for people to experience connection, belonging, improved confidence and shared enjoyment and meaning-making.
Group music therapy offers participants the chance to participate in a range of musical activities depending on their needs and interests. Activities may include singing, playing instruments, sharing and talking about songs, relaxation to music, movement to music, musical games and more.
